Chris Sorek: leaves Drinkaware at the end of June

Drinkaware to lose Sorek

Drinkaware's chief executive, Chris Sorek, has resigned.

Sorek joined the alcohol education charity in November 2008, and has led it through significant expansion. Drinkaware now boasts 16 full-time staff. It has become the leading source of alcohol informations for consumers in the UK, focusing on three target audiences: parents and their children, young adults, and adults who regularly drink above the daily guidelines.

"I am incredibly proud of what the charity has become", said Sorek today, adding that he would miss the charity.

Returning to his native United States for family reasons, Sorek's departure at the end of June will leave the charity without a chief executive. The recruitment process has begun, but Drinkaware does not expect to have a new chief executive until the autumn.

Until Sorek's successor arrives, it will be business as usual, stresses the charity. "There is a strong team in place to carry on with Drinkaware’s campaigns and public communications work in the interim" said a spokesperson.
